The Black Rock Desert and surrounding region need your support more than ever. Increased visitation is impacting this landscape. Your support puts gloves on the hands of volunteers and fuel in our work truck. It enables us to provide education, outreach, and visitor services. Gifts also support our various conservation and educational programs throughout the year.

Gifts of $35 or more annually receive these benefits:

  • Gerlach Visitor Center perks such as in-store discounts, free wi-fi and access to our outdoor shower.
  • Invites for special supporter events and priority notice for programs such as Wild & Scenic Film Festival
  • The satisfaction of knowing you really are making a difference.

“Friends of Black Rock – High Rock is helpful, kind to visitors, and does the hard job of preserving one of America’s most loved public places. If you’re looking for an organization to donate some of your extra dollars, this hardworking team could use your support.”

– Taylor Stanton

“Almost all of our special public lands need a dedicated and motivated support group to aid the federal agencies which often have too little in the way of resources to promote the enjoyment of these special lands. The “friends” group provides a valuable interface between the agencies and the public and enhances the public’s experience of the Black Rock NCA.”

I love the distant horizons of the playa. Future generations deserve to see the uncluttered vistas of the Black Rock country and Friends help in this preservation effort. I back Friends of Black Rock-High Rock for providing the wonderful weekends on the playa and the day trips with knowledgeable leaders. Friends of Black Rock-High Rock trips have taken me to areas that I would not have ventured on my own. Now I have the confidence and skills to return.”
– Gary Nielsen
“The main reason we support Friends is because of people like you [Executive Director] and the rest of the Friends ‘gang’. It feels like family. We really look forward to the outings and clean ups. We have made many new friends since we started volunteering and always have a fun time. And it’s always a good way to give back to our local area in a family safe, fun way.”
– Ted Stolting
