The Sahwave Mountains are located east of Winnemucca Lake and west of Granite Springs Valley.[1] At one time, the Sahwave Naval Gunnery Range was in operation.

Carlson writes that the name was placed by the Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel and it based on the Northern Paiute word for sage, "sah-wav"[2].
