Massacre Ranch is located south of Highway 8A in the Sheldon - Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge.

Carlson states that forty settlers were killed there [1]"A Guide to the Silver State," Federal Writer's Project, W. P. A. Portland, 1940. Description of the event.</ref>[2][3], though a later study brings doubt to whether a massacre occurred there.[4]
