National Public Lands Day 2021

Join us as we partner with Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Nevada Outdoor School, and the BLM – Nevada for a fun weekend of camping and volunteering at Soldier Meadows Cabin, Friday Sept. 24th – Sunday Sept. 25th.

Arrive: meet at the visitor center on Friday September 24th to caravan to the site, instructions are sent by email after you complete your signup below!

At the site: Projects will happen on Saturday the 25th

Depart: Sunday Morning/Midday departure and camp breakdown

We will be working specifically in the Desert Dace habitat in the hot springs, so please bring waders or wellies if you have them. This is a continuation of an on-going multi-year project to remove overgrowth that causes flooding and allows the Green Sunfish to threaten and attack the endemic Desert Dace. Other projects include trash clean-up around Soldier Meadows Cabin and any repairs inside, as necessary.

The four main project goals for this year’s NPLD:

  1. Restore sensitive habitat
  2. Re-naturalize trespass routes
  3. Remove fencing
  4. Cleanup for the Cabin area

There will be projects available for all skill levels, and children! Feel free to reach out to us and discuss the difficulty of the project if you have any concerns. As always, radical self-reliance rules the day!

Covid – 19: To best protect BLM employees and volunteers, the in-person NPLD event will follow the CDC public health guidelines that are current on the day the event is held and follow State and local jurisdiction directives. NPLD 2020 we had small groups of 10 people maximum, spread out through smaller projects. Hopefully we can achieve this same type of approach for this year due to so much uncertainty. Volunteers can camp if they desire but we will be avoiding large camping groups and group meals. BLM will not be advertising this as a camping event.

All spots have been filled.
