Morning Nature Walks: Docent Signup Page


Sign up here to help Friends of Black Rock-High Rock organize and lead programs at Fly Ranch. 

Before you sign up to become a Docent (lead or support) please read the requirements & fill out this questionnaire to start the process:

Docent questionnaire.

Starting July 1st, Nature Walks begin an hour earlier to beat the heat! Docent shift begin between 9am for leads and 9:30am for assistants.

Each nature walk requires:
– One Lead Docent
– Two Support Docents

Lead Docent Requirements:
-Attend at least 1 Nature Walk and complete an on-site orientation  (monthly dates will be available)

-Be familiar with Leave No-Trace principles. Training will be offered to our dedicated docents: additional dates TBA

-Attend 2+ Nature Walks as a Support Docent and read the Fly Ranch Nature Walk Docent Guide

*Wilderness First Aid  & CPR is highly recommended for leads.  Red Cross offers online and hybrid courses in First Aid and CPR. Lists of courses can be found here:

Support Docent Requirements:
-Attend at least 1 Fly Ranch Nature Walk with FBR staff or an experienced Lead Docent and complete an on-site orientation 

-Be familiar with Leave-No-Trace principles/attend a brief presentation with an LNT-trained volunteer

DOCENT SIGN-UP DATES ARE POSTED BELOW. Please note seasonal time differences in walks. If you have filled out the questionnaire (above) we will send you email notifications on dates, schedule changes and other updates.

PLEASE STAY TUNED: we will offer an online version of Fly Ranch Orientation through Burning Man, the link will be placed here when it is available.
