2023 Artists-in-Residence

The innovative Black Rock Desert Artist-in-Residence Program is designed to promote awareness and appreciation of the Black Rock Desert National Conservation Area through art. It allows artists to explore and experience the beauty of this unique wilderness environment while creating artwork inspired by their surroundings.

Now in its tenth year, this program gives artists the opportunity to share their work with the public and engage in meaningful dialogue about the conservation, preservation, and stewardship of our natural resources. By connecting art to nature, it helps foster a greater understanding of the importance of protecting our public lands for future generations.

We are delighted to announce the 2023 Artists-in-Residence are Rachel Stiff and Luke Rizzotto. After a rigorous selection process–from an amazing selection of truly brilliant applicants–we chose these two talented individuals who demonstrated exceptional creativity and skill in their artwork.

These artists will engage with a small community audience and experience the vast landscapes available in our National Conservation Lands. Public programs, community outreach projects, and an exhibition of the artist’s work will be hosted in Reno, Gerlach, and other rural communities in Nevada. Resident artists will be ambassadors of the Black Rock Desert NCA, working to promote awareness of the need for conservation and stewardship of this and other National Conservation Lands in the United States.

Join us in congratulating our 2023 Artists-in-Residence!
