Well, we just finished up a big Fourth of July weekend out here in the Black Rock! We saw many diverse user groups and things remained safe and sane throughout the course of the weekend. Thanks and kudos to Nevada Outdoor School, who sent a group out here for their Pahute Peak Rehabilitation / Restoration.

We like to extend a warm welcome to our newest board member, Debbie "Sam" Smith and look forward to her help in inspiring volunteers and connecting the Reno area with our mission.
This Weekend: Guru Road Restoration
Friends of Black Rock High RockHead on up this weekend, July 12 - 13  and join us in preserving Guru Road (aka Doobie Lane), an interactive rock art experience built by Dewayne "Doobie" Williams.  Metric, Crow and Friends will  be maintaining this uniquely Nevadan site with projects such as replacing a large arrow near the "Big Medicine" tipi, and recovering carved rocks from a massive rock slide.  Lunch and cold drinks will be provided on Saturday. Guru Road is 2 miles north of Gerlach-- take the right fork heading north on Rte. 34 and keep an eye out for it on the left. Meet us out there around 8 am, and RSVP if you plan to attend. Free camping for volunteers is available at the beautiful Iveson Ranch in nearby Hualapai Valley. Enjoy shady grounds, picnic area and a bit of the old west with host and Board Member Jeff "JB" Barker.

Help Friends at the VCT!Friends of Black Rock High Rock
It's more fun than you think to meet people in the Visitor Contact Trailer just outside of Gerlach. We'll even get you 50 cents a mile for your travel from Reno. If you have some working knowledge of the Black Rock Desert and are prepared to camp for a night or two, then come on up! Check our calendar and combine your visit with another event. If you don't want to camp, we can help you find you a place in town to stay. You also get the T-shirt and the patch-- or volunteer for a total 20 hours over the summer, and we'll get you the limited edition Friends of Black Rock hoodie.

Shifts run Fri. - Sun., 10 - 4, but it's flexible. Kick it in the shade, and chat it up with Friends staff, locals and folks from near and far.

C'mon, you know you love it here, and the Friends of Black Rock needs your help. Sign up for a shift, or contact us for more information.
