Updates from the Black Rock March 2019

Renovations @ Last Chance Outpost

The office is on extremely limited hours. We are closed during the week and are only opening on weekends when there’s programming. Fly Ranch and Leave No Trace check in will be at the office. As many of you know, our building was erected from handmade playa bricks and was the old Jalisco’s restaurant and bar. Unfortunately, it isn’t in the best repair. Our goal with this closure and renovation is to save the historic parts of the building while improving it for the health and safety of staff and visitors. We’re checking the voicemail a couple times a week, but prefer email contact during this time. We appreciate your patience during this time, and will graciously accept any donation towards the costs of repair.

Fly Ranch Programs

We’re excited to start Fly Ranch Nature Walks on the 5th of April. We’ve made some changes, including a stop by the historic ranch building. The walk is still an hour and a half and ends with time by the geysers. We rely on a volunteer docent team to keep the walks running smoothly and ensure that everyone has a good time. Volunteer orientation is March 23 and/or 24. We will be camping at Fly Ranch. Get your tickets or fill out our volunteer interest form today!

Leave No Trace Trainer

We’re looking forward to training 20 new Leave No Trace Trainers on March 30 and 31. The class will meet at the office, explore the NCA, and camp at Fly Ranch. Nevada Outdoor School is sending one of our favorite Master Trainers to lead the class. We look forward to seeing our trainees there, and are working on adding additional dates to the calendar for those of you who missed out this time around!

Tahoe Earth Day

Earth Day Celebrations return to Tahoe on April 20! We’ll have a table set up and are planning interactive activities with prizes. There are opportunities to help! Sign up or email for more information. Make sure to stop by and say hi!

Guru Road Restoration

Our annual trip down Dooby Lane is almost here! Help us restore the rocks and do upkeep on the art installations. We’ll also pick up some trash and make sure the road itself is in decent condition. Everyone is welcome to join! Sign up today to let us know you’ll be there!
