Do you have Pictures of or Near Jungo LandFill Site as Lakefront Property?

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) issued an operating permit to Recology for the Jungo Road Landfill on February 29, 2012 despite some very valid environmental concerns raised by several people during public comment. This landfill is planned to accept 4000 tons of nonrecycleable waste 5 days a week via train for 95 years. It is over an active aquifer in a seismic zone. No environmental impact study was required.

Several people are working on appealing this decision. One concern that many have, and that is a focus of one appeal, is the flooding that occurs on the landfill site. Interestingly, while the NDEP admits 'precipitation may gather in depressions on this land', they don't see this area as ever being ‘flooded’ or as meeting the NDEP definition of a floodplain (the laws referenced are NAC 444.6785(3) and NAC 444.6885). So, what you see in this 2010 picture is not flooding, just some precipitation gathered in a depression. ;) 'Precipitation in a Shallow Depression on the Playa''Precipitation in a Shallow Depression on the Playa'

Those involved in the appeal process are looking for pictures with standing water on or within 1000 feet of T.34N. R33E, Section 7 or in the vicinity of N 41.00 W 118.15 in Desert Valley. Some of you out there may have such a picture or maybe you know of someone else that may have taken photos like this of the area from a plane or the Eugene Mountains.

There are several pictures from 2010. But, there are probably other such photos from other times, including 2011. If you know of people that may have taken such photos, that may not see this notice, please let them know. Or maybe you have an idea for a source of photos such as a newspaper, an ATV or camping club, a library, institute or school. If you do, please get them involved and share this request with any such contacts you have. There’s many ways you can help surface these types of photos even if you don’t have a picture like this yourself!

Any pictures any of you may have, such as this one would be helpful in the appeal process. If you do have photos like this, please email them to jungo.appeal@yahoo.com along with the name and contact information of the person that took the photo, the date and the location.
1)If the picture isn’t digital, and you don’t have a way to scan it in, send a note to jungo.appeal@yahoo.com and they’ll figure out a way to work with you and get and get a copy of the picture.
2)If you aren’t sure of the date or location, share it any way. There may be a landmark or other way to get a sense of location or date (mountain range, vehicle also in the picture).

Thanks in advance. You can keep up to speed on the appeal process at http://sec.nv.gov/main/jungo_landfill.htm

Your help is appreciated, and thanks again for stopping by these pages.

Opinions are my own.
