THE NDEP EXTENDED PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FROM 12/16/2011 TO 1/30/2012, 5PM. Let's take advantage of this extension to be sure all questions are on the table. Public Notice was posted by the NDEP for Jungo Road Landfill with intent to issue the operating permit to Jungo. The draft permit, public notice and Jungo fact sheet are here: http://ndep.nv.gov/bwm/docs/ndep_letter_102611.pdf This landfill would bring in 4000 tons of non-recycleable waste from California, 5 days a week, via rail, for 95 years. The NDEP is granting an exception to allow the landfill to be built closer to an active aquifer than state statute allows. No environmental impact study has been done or required. A public hearing was held December 1, 2011,in Winnemucca. Public comment transcripts are available here: Public comments must be submitted in writing no later than 5:00PM on January 30, 2012 to: Jon Taylor, PE CEM The NDEP will either issue or deny the operating permit 30 days later. All NDEP/Jungo project documentation is at: http://ndep.nv.gov/bwm/jungo.htm We encourage everyone concerned about this landfill to actively participate in public comment. Following are links to some material that may be of assistance. --Dr. G Fred Lee & Associates was hired by Humboldt County to provide a review of the NDEP permit independent of the NDEP, Recology, or Recology consultants. You can read his report here: http://t.co/FVAYwmb8 It may help you articulate your own comments --Here's an example of a great comment already submitted --If you need inspiration or ideas, or just want to see what others are asking about, other comments shared with the NDEP are available at http://nolandfill.wordpress.com/2011/12/16/comments-from-12-1-ndep-meeti...
