ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION To learn about the organization please visit blackrockdesert.org EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director (ED) reports directly to the President of the Board, works closely with and under the authority of the Board of Directors (Board), its committees (Executive Committee, Education, Communications) and corporate officers (Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary). The ED manages FBRHR's day-to-day operations and leads the development and implementation of all aspects of its operations including: * Donor Development and Fundraising * Membership growth and the ability to take us to the next level * Program Development and Oversight * Staff Management * Financial Administration * Board Relations and Public Communications * Membership Management * Outreach and Events Details regarding these areas of responsibility are described below. Donor Development and Fundraising * establish a robust development plan with a focus on increasing the organization's income from individuals, foundations, businesses, and government agencies * set and meet annual fundraising goals from diverse and substantial funding sources * cultivate relationships and solicit major gifts from potential donors * develop and write grant proposals Program Development and Oversight * guide and oversee the development of program activities * establish accountability standards and systems that track the effectiveness and impact of the organization's program activities Staff Management * manage and oversee the day-to-day activities of a staff of employees, interns, and volunteers in accordance with typical non-profit business practices Financial Administration * have fiscal responsibility for the annual budget, as well as daily operating expenses oversee the operating budget Board Relations and Public Communications * communicate with Board members to keep them engaged and participating in FBRHR's program and fundraising activities * organize Board meetings; develop agendas and support materials * participate in Board Committee meetings Other Duties as Assigned by the President of the Board PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS * The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced and visionary professional with environmental knowledge. A Bachelor's degree is required. * The successful candidate will be a person of integrity and stature with proven leadership experience, exemplary nonprofit management skills, and a strong commitment to the environment and education. Other essential skills and experience include the following: * ability to lead, inspire, and motivate staff, board members, and all affiliated with FBRHR * track record of building strong, mutually beneficial relationships and achieving results * broad understanding of issues related to the environment and education * experience working with a diverse Board of Directors * significant project development and management experience * excellent written and oral communication skills including a high comfort level in presenting to potential donors and other business, governmental, and non-governmental leaders * understanding of financial statements and issues and proven ability to be able to run an organization in a transparent, effective, and efficient manner * understanding of social media * Knowledge of the Black Rock Desert / Rural Nevada / Great Basin preferred PERSONAL QUALITIES The ideal candidate will be passionate about the environment, able to deal with situations and projects where opinions may conflict, and be highly motivated with attention to detail.
