Event Details

Friends of Nevada Wilderness' volunteers and staff will team up with the Sierra Club, personnel from the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge and other volunteers to remove no longer needed barbed wire fence in this very wild and scenic part of northern Nevada. This work greatly enhances habitat for pronghorn antelope and mule deer populations found on the refuge.

The work day will be Saturday, June 20. Sunday will be a tour with Brian Day, Sheldon NWR Manager.

There should be plenty of wildlife to keep us company. Sage grouse, pronghorn, great-horned owls, and sandhill cranes are some we have seen in the past.

Contact Pat Bruce, Friends of Nevada Wilderness Field Projects Coordinator, for more information, directions and departure times. Project area is about 4 hours travel time north of Reno. Let Pat Bruce know several days in advance if you plan to participate so he can coordinate head counts with the Refuge personnel.
