Headed for Black Rock Sunday. Same truck, camper and dogs. New addition is a Yamaha Rhino to aid in the schlepping of the rock and extend our range. Plan on basing at a mine we discovered on a previous trip on Soldier Meadows road somewhere south of Soldier Meadows. The Hornet with 2wd couldn't get into the mine but we had a great conversation with the caretaker who had some unimproved camp sites. We hope to find the same place and use the Rhino to access the mine and find some good rocks. My wife knows the good ones. My job is to drive the Rhino, keep her hydrated and keep track of the dogs.

The last week of October will be our second annual fall camping and rock hunting expedition to B.R. and vacinity. last year we went in with the Green Hornet (97 3/4 ton 2WD Chevy), the Fort (4-Wheel pop up camper) and three dogs. Spent 4 nights between Susanville, Gerlach, Denio, Cedarville, then home to Chico. My wife is a jewlery artist and likes to look for rocks for her jewlery. She isn't a real "rock hound" just knows what she likes. My role is support, ie. shlepping the rocks she likes.
