MISSION:
Friends of Black Rock / High Rock helps manage the resources of the Black Rock Desert region and educates the public to foster stewardship and preserve its unique character.
Sharing a passion for the Black Rock Desert
/ High Rock Canyon / Emigrant Trails National
Conservation area, the Friends of Black Rock
/ High Rock formed in 1999. Various user
groups came together with the common goal to
preserve the region and promote appreciation
for the historical, ecological, agricultural,
recreational and scenic resources.
We are it's neighbors, visitors and concerned
citizens. Dwindling federal resources have put
many regions across the country at risk. Friends
plays an important role, not only by our own
efforts but also by assisting the BLM with
critical support.
Some of the services Friends provides
include:
- Education and outreach
- Annual Guru Road Restoration
- Staffing and managing the BLM Visitor Contact
Trailer in Gerlach
- Events and programs which encourage and
promote responsible travel.
Friends also acts as stewards and advocates
for the region, working to ensure the NCA
receives the highest level of protection
possible, while encouraging leave-no-trace and
tread-lightly ethics.
