EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 18, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. In attendance were David Book, Dave Cooper, Janet Moran, Will Roger, Graham Stafford, and Lorraine Watson. A quorum was present. Also in attendance was Matthew Ebert, Executive Director.
Sharing space for the FM radio station antenna on the Burning Man tower is probably not feasible.
Friends recently paid some medical expenses for a person injured while working on the Jalisco Club. Metric will contact Attorney Mark Begulin regarding this issue and will advise the Board.
Prospective Board Member Cheryl Surface attended the recent NCLS convention in Las Vegas and we are moving forward on the assumption that she will take the position vacated by Arlo Stockham.
Grant funds have been approved for the Strategic Planning meeting upcoming in December. Self-Assessments regarding this planning meeting should be done by all Board Members.
A newsletter will be mailed out in the next few days. We currently have 238 members current on their dues and approximately 260 "non-current" members.
We have spent approximately $14,480 on the FM radio station.
A solicitation letter was sent to El Paso Natural Gas, installers of the Ruby Pipeline. They declined our grant request.
Metric suggested that the Executive Committee meet again in December to review financials and the 2011 Budget. Lorraine may have trouble attending this meeting as she is scheduled for some medical work in early December. He also suggested a desire to bring the Fundraising Committee to new life at that time.
Due to a decline in funding levels from BLM we are freezing all except "core" expenses. However, the visitor trailer, spring kick-off, Rendezvous, and newsletters are all in the current budget. However, the FM radio station, Survey of springs, and additional brochures are not included in the current funding.
Staff will work on guidance for Board members to contact all members for various sorts of funding. Metric has also talked with Ed Norton, the founder of the NCLS organization on the fundraising issue. Norton also wants to attend the Rendezvous.
Education and Visitor Contact Committee: Lorraine requested involvement of a couple of contacts for member contact, one from NOS . She would also like our events on the Pyramid Lake calendar. The current address in Gerlach was discussed and the possibility of opening a satellite-type office in Reno.
FM Radio station: Metric is finalizing equipment for an approximate start-up in early January with some automated programming and some PSA's.
Conservation Committee: the various articles in the newsletter have generated about 8 good volunteer prospects.
Other: on 12/4 the Board Development meeting will be attended by Corey and Rolando. Mari Benson of Black Rock Solar will also be Will's guest at that meeting.
There will be a SubRac meeting on 12/11 with Rolando Mendez.
With motion and second the meting was adjourned at 7:09 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
David E. Book
