On October 17, 2007, The Friends of Black Rock High Rock applied for a Non-Commercial Educational Radio Station Construction Permit from the Federal Comunications Commission. This application was approved on January 22, 2008. To view the application, please click here

The Friends of Black Rock High Rock will produce programming for the broadcast station in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, public lands advocacy groups, and the local community.

Likely partners include the Nevada Outdoor School, Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Summit Lake Paiute Tribe, Washoe County Public Schools, recreation user groups, and many others.

Programs will provide interpretation of the various resources in the region, and also will provide emergency weather information for travelers.

We will also develop a technical training program for students from Gerlach and other communities.

Board meetings
FBRHR board meetings are now held quarterly-- March, June, September, and December-- and are open to the public. Locations may vary, but generally meetings are held at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of the month in Reno. Please see the calendar for specific information about the place and time.
