Come celebrate Dave Cooper's retirement! After 33 years of federal service, Dave Cooper will be moving on to new adventures and retiring from his post as the Black Rock NCA manager. Dave has been a huge proponent of multiple uses in the Black Rock Desert, and the Friends of Black Rock High Rock owes whatever success we currently enjoy in no small measure to him.
Please join us on January 10, 2009 at the Martin Hotel in Winnemucca. Plan on arriving at 6:00 pm for dinner. We have the Martin's banquet room reserved, and we'll be offered a menu of several entree options, from fish, to lamb, to beef. Prices--for a complete dinner including tax and tip--will range from $20 to $35.

Fly Geyser - Hot Spring trip
MEMBERS ONLY, PLUS SUGGESTED DONATION IS $50. Exact change or checks at the site or via PayPal at http://blackrockdesert.org/support/support.php. RSVP’s are required. After you read this if you need additional info, have questions, to RSVP, contact David Book at 775-843-6443 or dbook@gbis.com.
The trip will likely also include Great Boiling Hot Spring (at the “Y” in Gerlach), a possible bathing trip to Trego Hot Springs, and the possibility of an optional visit to Black Rock Hot Spring if the playa and weather permit.
We will meet at 7:00 am Saturday, January 31 at the Denny’s in Sparks on I-80 & McCarran. Please be prompt, arrive fed, and with a full gas tank. If possible, we will carpool to reduce the number of vehicles and save gas. Additional visitors may join us in Gerlach. They will meet us at Bruno’s Country Club Restaurant & Bar at 9:00.
All visitors will be required to sign liability waivers. All attendees are responsible for their own transportation, food, and water. Bring all water, snacks or lunch, and your normal “daytrip” gear. Daytime high temperatures will probably be in the 35-45 degrees if the weather is good. Of course, snow or cloudy weather will reduce that temperature. Be aware that there may be nudity at the hot springs. Dogs are discouraged and must be kept on leash and picked up after if brought along. This is a Leave No Trace trip so take out everything you bring in.
